A Whole School Approach to Removing Communication Barriers

ACES uses Visual Communication (VC) and the vocab of New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) as tools to suppoert chidren who have difficulty with verbal language to engage meaningfully in their learning/communities.

However it is being used more and more as a bridge to verbal language and supports the New Zealand Curriculum through using visual language features.

“This service has made a huge difference to the confidence level of the teachers, and the children as a whole have taken a huge interest. Communication with the child who signs has opened right out, and has been just wonderful!  What a difference!”    Marion Sheed Supervisor Cornerstone Christian Preschool Palmerston North
